The purpose of this page is to provide support for educators in South Australian Primary Schools to provide interactive and enterprising learning experiences for students in water shed education. Our aim is to create an inspiring series of lesson ideas to support Year 5, 6 and 7 teachers to develop geo-literacy in Middle Years students.
Meet our Professional Learning Community...
Deana Cuconits and Raelene White have worked together developing and implementing authentic community based learning opportunities for Middle Years students since 2013.
Deana Cuconits is an Early Career Teacher who has been working at Parafield Gardens R-7 School since completing her degree in education 5 years ago. Her passion is promoting critical and creative thinking with Upper Primary and Middle Years students through developing Higher Order Thinking skills. Authentic learning experiences are an important element of her pedagogy. Interacting with the community and experiencing its past and present history first hand creates powerful learners with a deeper conceptual understanding.
Raelene White has been working as a teacher for 16 years, currently a Year 6/7 teacher at Lockleys Primary School. She believes in the benefits of providing students with real life and cultural experiences. It is important for students to develop trust and a sense of wonder about what the community has to offer if they are to develop into citizens who care about the world around them and understand their role as part of human endeavour, knowing they can aspire to achieve great things.
